Information for the Novice Official for the 2008 - 2009 Season The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) has mandated that all new officials must complete a 25 hour Adult Education Program in order to qualify to take the National Federation of High Schools (NFSH) and Mechanics tests to become a High School Wrestling Official. You MUST attend at least seven of the eight classes and be present within 20 minutes of the starting time. These are OHSAA regulations which are non-negotiable. You must also pay a Class Fee of $100 by the second class in order to continue the Adult Education Program. You may not take any class materials home without paying the registration fee, this is a GCWOA regulation. The total cost will be $100. This class will be conducted only by Instructors which are OHSAA Certified and will include class content written and approved by the OHSAA & Ohio Wrestling Officials Association (OWOA). Cost Total Cost $10000 Class Fee - Checks made payable to GCWOA Your Fee Includes: OHSAA (Tests & Dues, $50), GCWOA (Dues, $35), & Class Materials ($15) Membership in the GCWOA includes many perks: having your picture and contact information on our Web Site, membership in the OWOA, having your attendance automatically sent to the Southwest District Athletic Board & OHSAA, plus free admission to the GCWOA Banquet at the end of the season. In addition to passing the NFHS Rules Test and OWOA Mechanics Test, the GCWOA expects each official to observe at least two Class 1 Officials for a total of six matches (i.e. three times each). You will also be required to Officiate on Saturday, January 24th in the Jr. High Coaches Classic. Once these requirements are met, and you mail the completed form to Ralph Farmer, you will move out of the Novice Class and be listed as a Class 2 Official on the GCWOA Web Site. Please fill out a registration form and either mail it to me to arrive prior to September 25, or simply bring it to the first class after sending me an e-mail so your Class Materials can be assembled.
